Everyone can use it throughout the world! You DO NOT have to be a ScoutSoft user to use the planner. If you are a ScoutSoft user you can import dates entered in the Requirement Planner generated requirement spreadsheets. LDS Youth leaders residing outside of the United States only search the LDS award's requirements and Non-LDS BSA Scout leaders only search the scouting ranks and badges requirements. Its that simple! It maximizes the effectiveness of your programs and reduces your planning time significantly!
The ScoutSoft Requirement Planner will automatically search and find the youth rosters in ScoutSoft's advancement tracking program if you use ScoutSoft. For other users it will load up a roster created by another software program or created manually with a text editor by the user in the required format. See Help in the Requirement Planner for instructions on the required file format and naming conventions. ScoutSoft users can automatically upload into their ScoutSoft database the dates entered into the Requirement Planner's spreadsheets.
The ScoutSoft Requirement Planner is a free program. It was originally scheduled to be included as part of the ScoutSoft v4.0 which runs on computers using Windows, Macintosh, or Linux. We decided to offer it as a separate free stand-alone program so every youth leader worldwide can use this powerful planning tool whether they are current ScoutSoft users or not.
If in the continental United States you can get the ScoutSoft Requirement Planner on a CD. You must reimburse the costs for manually preparing the CD and shipping and handling. Before ordering a CD you should see if someone in your neighborhood, sponsoring organization or at work who has a high speed internet connection and a CD burner can make you a CD. Both the Requirement Planner with JAVA and without JAVA will fit on a one CD. Also, the free trial version of ScoutSoft software will also fit on the same CD. Have the person download all the programs onto the CD. Cost of preparing a CD is $19.95 plus shipping & handling. In order to keep the Requirement Planner FREE ScoutSoft will include the 'full' and 'total' requirements for any rank or award ONLY if specific WRITTEN permission is received directly from the copyright holder. ScoutSoft has received specific written permission for the LDS awards but has not presently received specific WRITTEN permission for the BSA scouting ranks and badges. When such permission is received the ability to view and print the 'full' and 'total' scouting ranks and badges requirements (which are used by the Requirement Planner's internal search engine) will be activated for all users world-wide. Until such time the user must read the actual 'full' and 'total' scouting requirements in the BSA copyrighted publications to ascertain that the activity being planned will pass off ALL applicable parts of each 'selected scouting requirement'. When searching in the Brief display mode requirements will show up that may not contain the search words entered. This is because when using the Brief display mode the Requirement Planner searches on the 'full' and 'total' requirements built into the data base and displays the matched requirements in the paraphrased mode. Use the Full display mode to see the full LDS award requirement. All BSA requirements are paraphrased in either display mode.

The ScoutSoft Requirement Planner allows the leader to easily find scouting (& sponsoring organization religious requirements for LDS leaders) that are similar in subject or theme. It is a leader activity planning tool and is not a youth advancement tracking or reporting program. It does not determine if a youth needs a particular requirement or not. (See ScoutSoft's other products for individual youth advancement tracking and monitoring.) The ScoutSoft Requirement Planner includes both the appreviated (Brief) and the actual (Full) requirements for LDS youth awards and presently it ONLY has the appreviated (Brief) requirements for scouting ranks and badges. When planning an activity the leader should view the actual scouting requirements as contained in the printed BSA scouting books to ascertain all parts of each 'selected scouting requirement' that need to be completed as part of the activity being planned. The abbreviated (brief) BSA requirements contained in this software do not include all parts of every requirement!
